Samejima Mamimi Quote

In episode one of Fooly Cooly before Canti comes out of Naota's forehead, when Sameji takes a bite of the hard bread, Naota asks her how much she likes his brother. She responds:

"Watermelon... Or like a panda with a mean face, or sandals with pressure points drawn on them, or the smell of a blackboard eraser... Or a Sunday morning where you wake up and its raining.... well.... I like him more than hard bread..."

Easily one of my favorite quotes throughout the entire series. I'm looking for the connection in all of those. I just don't quite understand it. When I explain FLCL to my friends I tell them that I believe that she is not all there. That maybe she kinda tweaked when Tasuku left. Thoughts?

before that, Naota asked her how much she liked his brother right?
so maybe that was a vague response? So aren't they all just little things she likes Taksu more than? That's what makes the most sense to me.
